Bastian Build Co. wasn't started by two people who met at a networking event and decided to try construction together. It came out of years of separately doing the work — on job sites, in front of clients, and in a shop — before deciding to do it as one practice.

§ 01 · The Firm

B astian Build Co. sits in a specific and, we think, underserved part of the Northern Colorado market — too design-driven to be a volume remodeling outfit, too build-focused to be a pure design firm, and too selective to be a general contractor who takes every job that calls. We hold design and construction under one roof because we've both watched, from different sides of the table, what happens when those two functions are split across separate companies with separate incentives. Nobody wins that argument except the lawyers.

We don't chase every job that comes through the door. A firm that says yes to everything ends up mediocre at all of it. We're built to do a smaller number of projects well — with real drawings, a real budget tied to those drawings, and a team that's actually present through the entire build, from the first site walk to the final punch list.

§ 02 · The Two Sides of the Shop

Most builds don't fall apart
in the field.

They fall apart in the office. The proposal that doesn't arrive when promised. The invoice that shows up without a heads-up. The design change that never made it into writing. The phone that stops getting answered halfway through the project. These are the stories every homeowner tells about their last remodel — and they aren't stories about bad craftsmen. They're stories about a business that wasn't run like one.

So Bastian is run like one. Proposals when promised. Numbers tied to real drawings, not rounded guesses. Contracts written to be fair on both sides. A phone that gets picked up. Direct answers when the answer is uncomfortable. That standard belongs to the client-facing side of the firm, and it doesn't waver.

But a well-run business still has to build things — and on the other side of the shop, the craft holds. Nearly three decades in the trade, and over a decade running builds from foundation to punch list. Bastian's cabinets are drawn, cut, and finished in the same shop the firm operates out of. Its jobsites are led by people who have spent their working lives on them. Nothing about how the work gets done is delegated to guesswork.

§ 03 · The Practice

How Bastian works, day to day.

Every project moves through the same discipline regardless of size — a real site walk, a design phase tied to an actual budget, and a single point of accountability through construction. We don't hand a client from a designer to a project manager to a superintendent with three different stories about the schedule. One team carries the project the whole way.

Weekly communication is a standard, not a courtesy. Clients get a straight update on schedule, budget, and any open decisions every week a project is active — no chasing down a return call to find out where things stand.

§ 04 · Two Halves, One Trade

Bastian Build Co. is built on two complementary halves of the same trade. The client-facing side of the practice runs estimating, scheduling, and the direct relationship with every homeowner from first call to final walk-through. The production side runs the shop where the cabinetry and millwork are built, and the construction oversight in the field that makes sure what leaves the shop lands right on the jobsite.

Between them, the firm carries a combined 50+ years across craft and operations — decades spent on opposite ends of a build, now working the same jobs from both directions at once. Two halves of the same trade, working together, is the whole idea — and it's the reason the firm can promise a well-run jobsite, cabinetry built the way furniture should be, and one team accountable for the way both come together in the finished house.

§ 05 · Where We Come From

The shop
is still the anchor.

Before Bastian Build Co. was a design-build firm, its craft roots were in a working millwork shop — building cabinetry and millwork by hand, one piece at a time, for clients who cared about the difference between a dovetailed drawer and a stapled one. That shop still exists, and it still builds the cabinetry that goes into every Bastian kitchen, bathroom, and basement.

We keep the shop as the anchor of the practice because it keeps us honest about what "custom" actually means. It's easy to call something custom when you're ordering it from a catalog with options. It's a different claim entirely when the people running your project also build the cabinetry with their own hands.

Straight answers about cost, timeline, and tradeoffs — including the ones a client doesn't want to hear. We'd rather lose a job being honest than win one by overpromising.

Craftsmanship

Real materials, real trades, and a shop-built cabinetry standard that doesn't get compromised to hit a deadline.

Design first

Layout and function come before finishes. A beautiful room with a bad floor plan is a beautiful room you'll regret.

Real budgets

Estimates tied to actual drawings, not a placeholder number revisited later. You should know where the money goes before you sign.

Communication

Weekly updates on every active project, as a standard practice, not an occasional courtesy when things are going well.

Longevity

We build for the next thirty years, not the next photograph. Every material and system decision gets weighed against how it holds up over time.

§ 06.5 · Divisions

Two practices under
one shop.

Bastian Build Co. is a Northern Colorado general contractor and design-build firm — kitchens, baths, basements, custom homes, whole-home remodels. When you hire us direct, we run the project end-to-end. When another GC or architect brings us in, we're comfortable working inside another team's system as a trade partner.

Aegis Forge is our specialty division — a small commission book of secure firearms rooms, private armories, wine cellars, panic rooms, and concealed spaces for clients across Colorado. It runs the same way: direct when we're leading the build, or as a specialty subcontractor when another GC has the project.

Both practices share the same shop, the same craftsmen, and the same standard. Both operate under Granite Bastian Holdings, LLC.
